Job Role Responsibility
Over seeing the packing of dipped and Plain Waffle Cones ensuring that
product is being packed to the correct spec and that all staff are adhering to
health and safety rules for the area
Key duties will include but not restricted to:
- Liasing with Production Manager on work planning
- Staff Training – ensuring that everyone is fully trained on their respective roles
- Hourly checks on machines and product
- Dealing with day to day issues which arise
- Work with other departments to ensure targets are met and there is a
smooth run of raw material in and finished product out

R&D Smart Manufacturing Engineer

The College is seeking applications for an R&D Smart Manufacturing Engineer to work with Wafer Ltd on a 2 year contract via a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP).
This role will involve developing and embedding a new Smart Manufacturing Process for Wafer Ltd. Using IoT, SCADA, cobotics, digital twins, and automation, the Associate will create a digitally enabled, high-efficiency production system capable of 24/7 operation. The role is central to Wafer Ltds strategic transformation into a low-labour, high-output manufacturer with full product traceability and responsiveness to retail market demands.
A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is a three-way project between a company (in this case Wafer), an academic institute (such as NWRC) and a graduate (known as an Associate), which enables the transfer of knowledge, technology and skills to which the company currently has no access.
A KTP can help graduates to enhance their career prospects by providing them with an opportunity to manage a challenging project, which allows them to use their qualification, and is central to a company’s strategic development and long-term growth. Whilst the Associate leads the KTP project, they are supported by experienced staff from the company and the College. They are also assigned a KTP Adviser, who supports them in maintaining good working relationships within the partnership and in planning their professional development in broad terms.

As a KTP Associate, the post will offer the following benefits:
- A personal development budget of £4,000, a travel budget of £2,500 and project consumables budget of £4,000, relevant to the project;

- Full access to NWRC resources to complete the project;

CONTRACT INFORMATION
- Salary – Band 5 – £31,586-£35,235 per annum

Job Description
Wafer Enterprises Ltd is seeking a technically minded and motivated computing or, IT graduate to support a key digital transformation project in our manufacturing operations.
You will work directly with senior management and production teams to design and implement a system that automates data collection and improves visibility across the manufacturing process.
Key responsibilities:
- Work with stakeholders to gather technical and operational requirements.
- Evaluate and select appropriate digital tools and platforms.
- Set up and calibrate sensor and computer vision systems on production lines.
- Integrate systems using APIs and other interfaces.

- Excellent working knowledge and experience of HAACP and Internal Auditing
- Practical knowledge of Manufacturing Procedures, Product Specifications, Product assessment and Factory Hygiene
- Thorough knowledge of UK, NI and EU legislation for Product Labelling,

C.RESPONSIBILITY
Key duties will include:
- Conducting Induction Programme for new employees
- Monitoring, maintaining and ensuring that Training of all staff is up to date
- SALSA/ BRC record maintenance and ensuring integrity of document to actual production conditions and matching the latest Legal requirements
- Conducting HAACP and Risk Assessments every time the production/product environment undergoes any changes
- Developing Quality Control measures for each department and responsible for the quality function and Systems within the company including food safety legal responsibilities.
- Supporting new product and process developments with technical expertise
- Managing traceability, allergen compliance and raw material quality
- Training Supervisors and Managers on expected standards of Quality while leading the implementation and on-going improvement of Processes and disciplines in production, in conjunction with the Production Manager, Supervisors and their Teams.
- Conducting regular Audits to check on the accuracy and updating of
information for SALSA and other Quality procedures - Preparing for external third-party audits – SALSA/BRC
- Conducting regular Product Audits to check the consistency of product quality and labelling accuracy
- Creating specification sheets for product, PIFs, labels for front of packs and completion of Supplier Approval Questionnaires from Customers.
- Interacting, investigating and resolving quality complaints from customers and internal non conformances
- Ensuring that all product testing is up to date and reflects the latest required legislation standards
